Choosing a centrifugal juicer.
Power Depending on what you will mostly be using this for – soft fruit or hard vegetables like carrots – choose a machine well up in the power rating – 800 watts plus is a good start.
Spares. Whatever machine you choose google the brand and type to check the availability of spare parts – cutting disks, lids etc. If you can’t get it now you will not be able to get them later.
BPA. You will see some machines advertised as ‘BPA free’. BPA or Bisphenol-A is an industrial chemical used in plastics manufacturing and added to many products, including food containers, baby bottles, plastic water bottles etc. It has been used since the 1950s to produce strong and resilient plastics for food packaging and kitchen use. There is now concern that BPA’s may leach into foods and BPA exposure may lead to a number of health issues.
Research is continuing – in the meantime, play safe – and avoid. Check out https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/what-is-bpafor for a full report.
Cleaning The other point to watch is how easy to clean. Yes, cleaning is a fag. Check out Amazon’s customer star rating on how easy to clean to get an idea. It is very important, and good discipline, to clean immediately after use otherwise the pulp sets like concrete. I use mine daily and I can juice, clean, dry and put it away in under 10 minutes.
